TIPS AND ADVICE

A CV is the advertisement by which you sell yourself. If it is poorly photocopied, badly laid out and full of mistakes it will tell a potential employer nothing that will make him/her want to employ you. However, if it is crisp, tidy and easy on the eye it will encourage a second look.

Interviews Guidelines

Pre Interview:
  • Emotionally prepare yourself as the right mood helps you perform @ your best. Words of wisdom from a previous candidate AKA: To love and be loved is to see the sun from both sides ~ life is too short so live, forgive, believe, love, laugh and NEVER regret anything that made you smile. • LOOK BETTER, FEEL BETTER! Whether you are 18 or 60 years old "don't loose the point” it is an interview and remember at ALL times you are representing yourself and your appearance reflects this.
The Interview:
  • Arrive on time! This is a crucial moment to show the potential employer respect.
  • It’s OK to be nervous…Break the ice and feel free to say it!
  • Be polite and remember your manners at ALL times!
  • Listen / rather than blab! NEVER disclose ANY confidential or personal information of previous employers UNLESS it is positive!
  • Focus on the answers and not the questions. As a general rule, you should only speak one-third of the time, so in other words remember the term LESS is MORE.
  • THE DREADED…WHY DID YOU LEAVE YOUR RECENT POSITION QUESTION? Succinctly describe the reason for your departure and do not go into details unless asked. Stick to facts i.e. what you did, how you felt and what you learned. You may also provide reference letters to support you.
  • Talking salaries. Timing is everything! If you are asked what your salary expectations are too early in the interview, kindly say you would rather postpone that discussion until you have learnt more about the position.
  • Last BUT not least, if you walk away from an interview that did not seem to have been as successful as hoped and you get in your car wanting to hit the dash board…rather revise; that you were true to yourself and gave it 150%
